Elnora Isaac Kirby of Guilderland, NY, 83, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Born in Bamburg, SC and was the daughter of the late Julia Lee Isaac-Wise-Islar. She was also predeceased by her husband of 40 years, James David Kirby; brothers, Joe Louis Wise and Norman Wise; her sisters, Helen O'Neil and Bettye Rogers. After graduating from high school, she embarked on a journey to Queens, NY, where she found her footing in the bustling city. Working as a hostess in a top NYC restaurant, she encountered many of the era's famous leaders, including the esteemed Harry Belafonte, whom she later reconnected with at a show in Albany, NY. Her tenure as a nursery schoolteacher at The Learning Tree in McKownville, NY, spanned several years. Elnora's commitment to community service was evident in her involvement with various organizations, including 4-H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and her dedicated service as a poll worker at the Westmere Fire Dept. during every election. which afforded her the opportunity to see all the children she taught. She extended her care to the elderly and shut-ins, providing transportation to appointments and offering companionship.
Her life's work was a testament to her selflessness, as she devoted herself to helping others, sharing joy through her remarkable gardening skills, and living out her faith.
Elnora's artistic flair was evident in her exquisite flower arrangements and meticulously tended gardens, which left observers in awe of their beauty. Her hospitality extended to her dinner spreads, where there was always an abundance of food and warmth.
Elnora's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the beauty she created, and the love she shared with everyone she encountered. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her memory will be cherished forever.
Elnora leaves behind a son, Raynard G. Kirby and a daughter, Yolanda Kirby, both of Albany; her siblings, Samella (Henry) Singleton of Bamberg, SC, Valrie (Mervin Sr.) Ford of Columbia SC., James (Henrietta) Wise, Willie Wise, and Donald Wise all of Denmark SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held at Waterford Wesleyan Church, 75 Grace St., Waterford, NY 12188, on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Paul Barna, with repast following the service. Flower deliveries can be sent directly to the church.
