Elsie M. Sowinski

COLONIE – Elsie M. Sowinski, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 with her loving family by her side. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late James and Elsie McDonough. She has resided in Colonie since 1976. Elsie was head cashier for Albany Public Market for thirty-five years and then Grand Union from where she retired. She enjoyed ceramics and shopping for her grandchildren.

Elsie was the beloved wife of the late Louis Sowinski. She is the devoted mother of Robert (Cecelia) Sowinski, William (Terry) Sowinski and Carol (Lyle) Branch. Elsie is the cherished grandmother of Kimberly (Townsend) Plant, Colleen (Michael) Partridge, Andrea (Chris) Meyer, David (Michelle) Sowinski and Marshall Branch. Also surviving are her loving great-grandchildren, Towsend III, Nathaniel and Izabella.


Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Elsie M. Sowinski.
