COLONIE – Emeline "EM" C. Bard Simmons, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 after a long illness at the Teresian House in Albany. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Emeline was born on May 27, 1921 in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late William and Emeline (Hale) Huffmire. She was primarily a homemaker all her life but worked for General Electric during WWII and worked for the South Colonie School District for 10 years. She enjoyed traveling, camping in the Adirondacks, reading and sewing. She always welcomed everyone to her home and was always willing to set an extra plate. She was a lifetime member Midway Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she was a past president and a member of their Clown Patrol and a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Emeline was the beloved wife of 6 years to the late James Simmons. She is the loving mother of Alice (the late Richard) DiNicola of Syracuse, NY, Gary B. (Cathe) Bard of Edinburg, NY, Terry A. (Tina) Bard of Colonie, NY, Robin D. (George) Kretzler of Colonie, NY, Gordon L. (Angie) Bard of Houston, TX, Joyce E. Bard of Colonie, NY and the late William R. Bard; mother-in-law of Barbara Bard; stepmother of Joel (Sue) Simmons; sister of Helen Rood and the late Henrietta Bard. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jamie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
