Emerick C. Nagy "Rick", 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.
Rick was born in Hopewell Virginia, a son of the late Emerick and Irene Nagy and was a lifelong area resident. Rick proudly served with the United States Air Force during WWII as a pilot in the 28th TCC Squadron and retired as a Second Lieutenant in 1946. Following his military service he attended RPI & Newark College of Engineering. From 1951-1954 he worked for Curtiss Wright with flight simulators. He had a career with GE as a metallurgist in the Research and Development Center from 1954-1987. Rick resided in the Capital District until his retirement when he and his wife moved to Mechanicsville, Virginia. They returned to the Capital District area four years ago. He had a great interest in planes, was an accomplished woodworker, an avid gardener, loved camping and he was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts for many years. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Beatrice in 2010.
Rick is survived by his children: Charles J. (Katie) Nagy, Susan (Lauris) Petersen, John (Karen) Nagy, Catherine (Kevin) Petersen, Virginia (Jim) Street and Mary (Ray) Kirsten,step children: Nancy (TJ) VanWagenen, Diane (Walt) Platt, Terri (Dean) Bostwick, Mary Wingrove and Peter (Kathie) Zaremski, 34 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, his brother Roland (Cathy) Nagy, his sister Maryanne Nagy and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Luvera and the dedicated staff at Kingsway Nursing Center for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services for Rick will be Tuesday at 9:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to The Parish of Mater Christi (formerly St. Catherine of Siena) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. The family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rick may be made to Alzheimer's Assn NENY Chapter, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4 Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205.
