Emily Esposito, 87, was reunited in heaven with the love of her life, "Spence" on Sunday, March 1, 2015, while surrounded by the love of her six children.
Born in Brooklyn on August 14, 1927, she was the youngest of five siblings, with deep roots back to Naples, Italy. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn
It was a chance encounter with a man in the U.S. Army Air Corps that began with a conversation about Frank Sinatra and ended in 57 years of a happy marriage to Spence, who predeceased her just over 10 years ago. Together, they raised Carmine (Lucille), Diane (James), Michael (Jean), John (Susan), Mary (Richie) and Jimmy (Shawn), who in turn provided them with 16 grandchildren and their spouses, and a lucky 13 great-grandchildren – all of whom carry on their legacy of love.
Emily worked as a bookkeeper for many years as well as an admitting clerk at Mercy Hospital in Long Island, but she was most happy with the years spent raising her family and imparting the lesson that "family comes first, no matter what".
In her own words, Emily was proud to have led an authentic life. "I'm just an ordinary person," she said. "I've lived a good life, tried to be true to myself and to everybody else. I believe we should forgive and forget. I'm proud that I've lived to this age and got to see my children become good and caring people, saw my grandchildren grow up and spent time with my great-grandchildren, too."
Emily's family invites all to join for calling hours on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 4-8pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY, with a funeral service and a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, in Latham, NY. Interment will be at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities or Hospice of Rensselaer.
