PLAINFIELD, NJ – Emily L. Dabney, 70, died on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Westfield Center-Genesis Elder Care in Westfield, NJ.
Emily was born on October 23, 1938 in Westfield and was the daughter of the late Albert and Annie Willingham Dabney.
Emily graduated from Hudson Valley College in Albany and received her B.S. and M.A. degree in Business Management. She has worked for the Verizon Corporation in New York since graduating from high school. At one point she took a leave of absence and joined the Peace Corps. She returned to Verizon and retired at the age of 65. Emily enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer.
Emily is survived by her two brothers, James Pauline of Armenia, NY and Walter Dabney of Albany; her sister, Barbara Ann Dabney and her fiancé Howard Whittingham of Colonie and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Roosevelt Pauline.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 236 N Pearl St., Albany. Calling hours will precede the service from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Albany.
