Schenectady- Emily E. (Vigus) McGroty, 85, of Schenectady, but most recently of Colonie, entered into eternal life and into the arms of her beloved husband William who predeceased her in October, on January 12, 2006 at St. Clare's Hospital, surrounded by her loving daughters after a short illness.
Emily was born November 8, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Thompson) Vigus. She had worked for many years as a waitress and bartender at the Tip Toe Inn Restaurant in Schenectady, retiring in the 1980's to enjoy spending time with her family and enjoying her favorite pastime playing bingo. Emily was also a life member of the Stanford Heights Ladies Auxiliary. Emily is predeceased by her husband of 57 years William McGroty, and her three brothers Raymond Vigus, Clifton (Curly) Vigus, and William Vigus.
Emily is survived by her three devoted daughters, Sharon McBride of Rotterdam, Shirley LaPrade of Schenectady and Coleen Fowler of Colonie, seven grandchildren, David Barringer, Christopher LaPrade, Adam Sheldon, Noah Sheldon, Eli Sheldon, Timothy Fowler, and Hannah Treis, and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Barringer, Jerome Thrasher, Tylor Peragine, Alexander Sheldon and Sarah Sheldon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial celebration of Emily's life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Teresian House Infant of Prague Chapel, 200 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203 at 11:00 AM. All family and friends are welcome to attend. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Clare's Hospital for the compassionate care Emily received during her recent stay. The family also requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Teresian House Foundation, 200 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203 or to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308, in memory of Emily E. McGroty.
