Emma Jean Clay

Emma Jean Clay, 79, fulfilled the course of her earthly life and assumed body and soul into heavenly glory surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 4, 2016.

Emma Jean was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi, on May 5, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Geraldine Lester and Melvin A. Lester. She was the devoted wife to William M. Clay for 61 years. Two children were born to this union.

Emma graduated from Albany High School and went on to graduate from Albany Business College. She worked for Montgomery Ward for several years before joining New York Telephone Company as a Directory Assistant where she worked for 22 years before retiring due to an injury.

Emma was a dedicated member at the Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and looked forward to service every Sunday.

Emma was a remarkable wife, companion, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband William M., sons Michael M. (Sandra) and Scott W. (Elizabeth), grandsons Whitney M. and Bryce W., great-grandson Carter M., first cousin Jerome Garrett Sr. (Barbara) and a host of family and friends.

Relatives and friends may call at the Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church, 105 Second St., Albany, NY on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 9 -11 a.m. followed by a Home-Going Service at 11 a.m. where Rev. Dr. Damone Paul Johnson, Sr. Pastor will preside. Interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Schenectady, NY immediately following the service.
