ALBANY – Enerina Barbalace, 91, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Born in Pellero, Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria (Rinaldi) Caiulo.
Enerina worked as a seamstress in Italy, and then after arriving in the United States in 1960, she was employed with DeBeer and Son's for 12 years. She retired in 1972. Enerina was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Anthony's Church in Albany. She enjoyed being with family, cooking, baking, playing BINGO, and traveling to the beach.
Along with her parents, Enerina was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Francesco Barbalace, and siblings Carmelo, Teresa, Gina, Carmela and Giovanni, and in-laws Vincenzo and Pasqualina Barbalace, and Gregorio and Angelina Mosca.
She is survived by her daughters Maria Rosa (Frank) Verrelli of Albany and Rita (Joseph) Catalano of Albany; grandchildren Frank (Kim) Verrelli, Jr., Anna-Maria (Gino) LoGuidice, and Joseph Catalano, Jr.; great-grandchildren Alexander and Patrick Verrelli, and Antonio and Marco LoGuidice; sisters Sofia and Rosina; sister-in-law Antoinette (the late Domenico) Barbalace; cherished niece Rosalia Rossi, and many nieces and nephews.
The family whole-heartedly wishes to thank the staff at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehab and St. Peter's Hospice for their amazing care, compassion and utmost professionalism.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead Street, Albany. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NENY, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4, Suite 405, Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12205 in Enerina's name.
