Eric Colon, 64, died on Wednesday August 25, 2021 at Albany Medical Center due to complications of COVID-19. Eric was born on October 7, 1956 in Manhattan, New York to Vincent Colon and Amparo Perez.
Eric attended the Bronx School District and Hudson Valley Community College. He worked as an electrician at the Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC) for 38 years. In his younger days, Eric played handball in Central Park. He enjoyed playing chess, dominos, motorcycling, and fishing. He was a New York Giants fan and followed boxer; Manny Pacquiao Sr. (PacMan). Eric named his dog after PacMan.
On April 21, 1989, he married Dulcesima "Candy" Vitto. They renewed their vows for their 25th anniversary on April 21, 2014 in the Philippines. Eric and Candy had no children of their own but "adopted" many children including Amy Grossman, Shane Castalde, & Dicey Lewis. They have also enjoyed mentoring Julian Hernandez, Yohan Mamitag, and many, many others.
Eric enjoyed going to Lake George. He would take Dicey and Shane from their infancy to Lake George every summer. He also would take them and many others to the Great Escape.
Eric loved doing the Lord's work. From a young age he was involved in ministry and was a Pathfinder. He was a deacon at the Joy of Troy Seventh-day Adventist church. No one who walked into the doors of the church was a stranger to Eric.
Eric is predeceased by his father; Vincent Colon. He is survived by his wife; Dulcesima "Candy" Colon; mother, Amparo Perez; aunt, Carmen Nazario; cousin, Lilian Perez; Candy's sister, Myrna Lyon; niece, Joy (Keith) Lewinter with children Joey, Max, and Nate; niece, Rose Lyons (Ryan); "adopted" family, Amy Grossman, Shane Castalde, Dicey Lewis, Arlene Lewis, and Lamont Lewis; dear friend, Pastor Hugh Langley, many family members in the Philippines, and the Joy of Troy Community Seventh-day Adventist Church Family.
A visitation will be held on Friday Sept 3rd from 10am-12pm with a service to immediately follow at the Joy of Troy Church. 600 Third Avenue, Troy NY.
