Eric V. Virtanen

SCHENECTADY- Eric V. Virtanen, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 26, 2021.
He was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Richard and Angelina Wellette and Tapio Virtanen.
Eric graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and joined the Navy and subsequently was Honorably Discharged.
He worked for many years for GE and retired from NYS.
Eric enjoyed photography and was a lover of animals, especially cats.
He is survived by a sister, Rise (Bob) Wellette-Weston; a brother Drew (Pauline) Wellette; nephews: Harold (Karen), Kieran (Mariann), and John (Carly); nieces: Isabella, Brittany and Ashley; a great niece, Taylor; his aunt Eleanor; and his cat Muffin, who brought him much joy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Monday October 4, 2021 from 11-12:45 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A brief memorial service will follow at 12:45 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family has requested that all in attendance to please wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302.
