GUILDERLAND – Ernest A. Matelitz, 82, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Ernest was born on April 17, 1930 in Albany and was the son of the late Anthony and Sophie L. (Jensis) Matelitz. He was an auto mechanic for many years, working for Armory Garage, Wendell Cadillac and Kronau's Body Shop. He served his country proudly in the US Coast Guard. He played the saxophone, having played in several bands in the Tri-City area during the 1950's and 1960's. He had also played for the Cerebral Palsy Telethon.
Ernest is survived by his loving children, Linda M. (the late Marty) Zaloga and David A. (Patty) Matelitz both of Guilderland; his cherished grandchildren, Alison (Jeremy) Hosier, Matthew (Becky) Zaloga, Marty (Kim) Zaloga Jr., Daniel Schuch and Sammy Schuch and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Rawlings) Matelitz and his sister, Theresa Ellis.
In honoring his wishes, there will not be a service for Ernest. His remains will be laid to rest with those of his wife's at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
