ALBANY—Ernest H. Schafer, 78, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 1, 2011 after a long time battle with diabetes, heart and kidney disease.
Ernest was born in Springfield, MA, a son of the late Jacob and Marie Schafer. Ernest was a little league coach and helped with the cub scouts. He valiantly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Marion (Peppy) Schafer; devoted son, David Schafer; sister, Marie (Dolly) Juckett; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ernest's family would like to thank the staff on the fourth floor at St. Peter's Hospital for their dedication and compassionate care shown to Ernest during his stay.
Services will be held Friday morning at 11 am at the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. (Rt. 155 south of Central Avenue). Interment to follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday morning, from 10 to 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ernest's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Sq., Albany, 12205.
