COLONIE – Ernest M. Williams, 79, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010, after a long illness. Born in York, Alabama, he was the son of the late Albert and Nancy Williams. Mr. Williams had resided in Colonie since 1972. Ernie was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He worked for Kelly Air Force Base, Tobin Packing Company and more recently, for Albany County Nursing Home from where he retired. He was a communicant of Christ Our Light Catholic Church where he participated in the Senior Citizens. He was also a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520. Ernie enjoyed bowling for many years in a league at Sunset Lanes. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ernie is the beloved husband of almost 54 years to Jean A. Williams. He is the devoted father of Cheryl (Stephen) VanGelder of Albany, Ernest Michael (Nancy) Williams of Halfmoon, Laurie (Gary) Viall of Schaghticoke and the late Jeffrey Williams. He is the cherished grandfather of Stephen, Adam, Nicholas, Lexi, Jeffrey, Matthew, Gary (Christy), Joshua, Justin and Rebecca. Ernie is the brother of Joseph L. Williams of Wilsey, KS, Robert V. (Karen) Williams of Abilene, TX, Virginia Seguin and Disa Coleman, both of San Antonio, TX and the late Albert E. and Richard C. Williams.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (RT. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church (formerly St. Francis de Sales), 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Ernest M. Williams.
