Colonie – Ernest A. Vigars died Friday December 14, 2007 at his home with his wife, Rose, at his side.
Ernest was born in Albany, the son of Ernest and Adelaide (Badgley) Vigars. He joined the US Coast Guard at the outbreak of WW II and faithfully served his country for four years. After his military service, Ernest went to work as a stone mason. He soon joined his father in their family businesses. The family owned Ralph's Tavern and Redwood Lanes both on Central Ave. in Colonie. Ernest continued in the family's tradition and opened his own business. The Vigars Soft Ice Cream of East Greenbush was owned and operated for sixteen years by Ernest and Rose. He is pre-deceased by a son, Lee Olby.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughter Victoria (Michael) Doyle, daughter-in-law Carol Olby, his grandchildren; Brian (Noelle), Kristen and Aleisha Olby and Patrick and Bridget Doyle, his great grandchildren; Tyler and Meghan Olby.
Funeral services will be Monday 1:30 pm at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home starting Monday at 12:30. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemtery.
