COLONIE – Esther Evelyn McTague, 77, died peacefully in her sleep on June 26, 2006. Born in Albany on April 12, 1929, she was the 10th daughter of the late Minnie and William Warren Finkle. After graduating from Philip Schuyler High School, she worked at Sterling Winthrop Laboratories in Rensselaer. Esther married Francis H. McTague on March 15, 1947. Esther and Happy spent 59 years together, thirteen of which they owned and operated Happy's Coach House in New Salem, NY. They enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida before returning north, living at Hudson Shores Apartments, in Watervliet. Esther was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Gertrude Howard, Annie Finkle, Tina Pluff, Clara Loux and Elizabeth (Betty) Barton. Esther is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Francis H. McTague. She is the devoted mother of Patrick F. McTague and his wife, Esther of Warrensburg, Kathleen E. Wilson of Rensselaer and Martin J. McTague and his wife, Lynn of Schenectady. She is the cherished grandmother of Michael P. McTague of Saratoga, Ryan W. Rapp of Rensselaer, Andrew S. McTague and Daniel F. McTague, both of Warrensburg and Kyle M. McTague, Tyler J. McTague and Shannon L. McTague, all of Schenectady. Eight sisters also survive: Eleanor Lee of Colonie, Annie D'Allard of Schenectady, Loretta McLaren of Troy, Ruth Prescott of Clifton Park, Florence DiPofi of Clifton Park, Joyce Diffenback of Colonie, Dorothy (Dolly) Leader of Satellite Beach, FL and Lois Finkle of Albany. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther's family would like to extend special thanks to the excellent nursing staff at the Albany County Nursing Home for the considerate and dedicated care of our wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) the to St. Brigid's Church, Watervliet at 11:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Esther's pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albany County Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 780 Albany-Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12211, attention Erica Salamida, in memory of Esther E. McTague.
