Eugene Berhaupt

May 6, 1969 — February 6, 2025

Here’s to the extraordinary life of Eugene “Duke” Berhaupt, 55, of Colonie, NY, who passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Rensselaer, New York, Duke was the son of the late Richard M. Berhaupt Sr. and Jean C. Berhaupt. A devoted husband, father, “Poppy,” brother, and uncle, he touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, warmth, and unwavering love.

For 39 years, he shared a beautiful journey with his beloved wife, Lisa Berhaupt, who was not only his partner in life but his best friend and soulmate. They were inseparable, facing every joy and challenge together with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their bond was a testament to true love, and the life they built together was filled with cherished memories and deep affection.

His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren: Randy (Jenn) – Calvin & Skylar; Kristin (Bobby) – Chris, Emma, Lilly, & Noah; Kelly (Isaiah) – Randy, Sa’Khi, & Jayden; Eugene (Jade) (Kiersten) – Aubrey, Harleigh, Eugene, Hunter, & Piper; and Kayla (Erica). He is also survived by his brothers and sisters—Richard Jr.(Michelle),Aaron(Jen),Michael(Sheri) Kurt(Bridgett)Dawn, Tammy(Gerry) George, and Christopher—along with many nieces and nephews who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Duke was a hardworking man who took great pride in his career. He was a Co owner of E and E Top Quality Contracting before later working as an environmental field technician for Hydro Tech. Beyond his work, Duke had a deep passion for collecting coins, a hobby that brought him great joy. He found beauty and history in each piece, often sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with family and friends. His love for collecting wasn’t just about the coins themselves, but about the stories they told and the connections they created.

Duke was a shining example of a dedicated husband, a loving father, and a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. While his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Rensselaer Ambulance Garage. All who loved him are invited to join in honoring his remarkable life.
