RAVENA - Eugene "Gene" J. Murnighan, 86, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Gene was born on May 28, 1937 in Albany, the son of the late James and Agnes (Faivre) Murnighan. He served proudly in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1961, attaining the rank of Airman 2nd Class. He worked as head pay master for Dearstyne Brothers Tobacco Company in Albany for many years.

Gene enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with neighbors and friends and had a great love for animals. He always had his pets around him, both cats and dogs. He loved taking long walks with his dog and sitting down at the marina relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. He also enjoyed day trips with his lifelong friend, Linda. They had known each other for a great many years and met while working at Dearstyne's.

Gene is survived by his brother, Charles (Jo-Ann) Murnighan and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Louis "Lou" H. and Martha (Hine) Murnighan.

Gene was extremely grateful for the help and constant support he received from his niece, Donna. During this time they were able to form a close bond for which both were very grateful for. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Rosewood, especially Cheryl and Geneva for their loving and compassionate care given to Gene.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
