LATHAM - Eugene "Gene" R. Traver, 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at The Inn at St. Peter's Hospice.
Gene was born in Schenectady on June 16, 1924 and was the son of the late Frank E. and Ellen (Clark) Traver. He served the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946, where he learned his barbering skills. After serving his country he owned and operated Gene Traver's Barber Shop in Troy for 52 years. He also worked part-time as a bus driver for the North Colonie School District for 15 years. He enjoyed being a handy man, a golf enthusiast - shooting a hole in one, and avid Red Sox fan. He loved spending time with his loving family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was a 24 year member of The American Legion Post #1450 in Halfmoon.
Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Eileen E. (Hogan) Traver; his loving children, Richard S. (Monica) Traver, Sandra G. (Stephen) Rajczewski, and Robert E. Traver; his cherished grandchildren, Adam (Michelle), Ryan, and Katie Traver, Andrew and Kaelyn Rajczewski; his sister, Doris Ingram; his brother, Richard C. Traver and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Frank E. Traver, Jr., Barbara Kettler, and Everett Traver.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Colonie.
