COLONIE – Eugene Richard Rowinski, 74, passed away on April 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 10, 1948 a son of the late Andrew and Helen Rowinski. He was a graduate of Colonie Central High School and earned his AAS from HVCC.
Eugene was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. He was a Wireman and a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. He earned the Bronze Star during the Battle of Fire Support base Ripcord along with other awards.
Following the military, Eugene worked as a Machinist for General Electric and later for Watervliet Arsenal.
He was a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520 and the Brunswick Sportsman's Club. He served as a Little League Coach and a Boy Scout Leader.
Eugene always enjoyed family gatherings at home or away. He loved his family and grandchildren who were the joy of his life, teaching them fishing, target shooting, bow shooting and operating machines. He also enjoyed a night out of dinner and dancing with his wife. He was always ready to help someone in need. He will be remembered with a smile for his little antics.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of forty-five years; his sons, Joshua and Adam (Jessica) ; his grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Caleb and Eli; his brothers, Steve, John (Joanne), sister in law, Lois Rowinski; brothers-in-laws, Ron Ernest, Bill (Dorothy) Ernest and several nieces and nephews; his best buddies, Bill Youzwak and Norman Pounds.
He was predeceased by his baby daughter, Gina Marie and a brother, Andrew.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr, Albany, NY. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post #1520, 4 Everett Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
