Eugene Stryjek Jr.

November 16, 1947 — July 31, 2014

Loudonville – Eugene "Gene" W. Stryjek, Jr. passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday July 31, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, he is the son of Stasia Dobek Stryjek and the late Eugene W. Stryjek, Sr.

Gene was a 1965 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and the Bryant and Stratton College. He later proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from N.Y.S.O.M.R.D.D. in 2003 after 37 years of dedicated service. Gene was a member of the Polish Community Center and the Zaloga Post. He was an avid New York Giants fan, NASCAR enthusiast and loved spending time by the ocean, especially annual vacations to Aruba and Hampton Beach, N.H. He loved to host parties at his home, with his beloved wife Peggy, where keeping everyone comfortable and making sure everyone had a good time was his number one priority.

In addition to his mother, Gene is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Margaret Peggy "Honey" Rutzky Stryjek; his children, Allison (Jeremy) Stryjek, John (Morgan) Holmes, James (Hope) Holmes and Michael (Morgan) Holmes; his grandchildren, Peyton and Collin Kaltaux, and Paxton Holmes; his siblings Paul Stryjek, Mary Ann (Dave) Crane, John (Ann) Stryjek; his sisters-in-law, Marianne (Alan) Williams and Rosanne (Tom) McKee, and his beloved uncle Frank Dobek. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and uncles.
In addition to his father, Gene was predeceased by his sister-in-law Sandra Stryjek and his in-law's Mary and Victor Rutzky.

The family would like to thank Gene's life-long friend Alfie Connors for all of his support and friendship. They would also like to thank Dr. Zen and his entire staff at NYOH, Dr. Kowal and his staff, also St. Peter's Hospital (5 McAuley) and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gene on Saturday August 9th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church prior to Mass from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Burial will be Monday August 11th at 12:00 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends will be gathering At New Comer Cannon on Monday at 10:45 a.m. and departing at 11:00 a.m. to proceed to Saratoga.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Gene's name to the Sandie Stryjek Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mail to Schalmont Central School District 4 Sabre Dr. Schenectady, NY 12306. Attention: Sandie Stryjek Scholarship Fund.
