Eugenie M. Stachewicz, 84, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2015 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center with her family by her side.
Eugenie was born March 16, 1930, at New York City, New York. She married her husband, Joseph on July 15, 1950.
"Genie" came to Schenectady as an infant and was an 1948 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. She was a secretary at General Electric working in the large Motor & Generator Department and Aeronautics and Ordinance Security Department through 1953, leaving for family responsibilities.
She returned to the workplace in 1960 as secretary to the late trial attorney George A. Marcus leaving in 1964 to assist her husband in his business, Cavanaugh's card shop, until 1974. She then was employed as Office Administrator for the H. Schaffer Foundation Inc. and Kem Cleaners, Inc. retiring in 1994.
Next to her family her greatest joy was music. Genie began singing in the Immaculate Conception Church at fourteen years of age and was a soloist there. She continued her commitment to sacred music when she joined St. Paul the Apostle Church in 1956. She was a member and soloist with the Schenectady Choral Society for over 15 years. She was a member of the Octavo's for two years. Most recently she performed with the Singers for enjoyment for over ten years.
Genie also acted with the Schenectady Theater for Children for six years and often said this was her most fulfilling experience and an unexpected joy in her life.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Joseph R. Stachewicz.
Genie is survived by her children, Faith (Michael) Gifford, Michael (Brenda) Stachewicz, and Robert (Susan) Stachewicz. She is the adored grandmother of Jennifer Gifford, Noah Stachewicz, Charles Schumaker and Nicole Finn. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, many cousins and close friends.
The family would like to thank the staff on the Guadalupe unit at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for the outstanding care given to our mother.
