GUILDERLAND – Eva S. Greene passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013. Born Eva May Shediak on May 22, 1928 in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Shediak. She was a graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River and received a Bachelor's degree from Trinity University in Washington, DC in 1950 and Masters degrees from Boston College and the State University of New York in Albany. Eva taught history at Durfee High School in Fall River, MA and was a textbook editor in Boston where she met her future husband. She married Harold F. Greene on July 3, 1958 at the Unitarian Universalist Headquarters Chapel in Boston, MA.
Eva was a long time resident of Guilderland where she resided with her husband since 1970. She taught for twenty years as a school librarian in South Colonie before retiring in 1991. Following retirement, she was actively engaged with the New York Statewide Senior Action Council as a member of the Board of Directors and a founding member of the Capital District Alliance of Retired Americans. Eva was also an active participant of the Guilderland Senior Services.
Eva is survived by her beloved husband, Harold F. Greene. She is the devoted mother of three sons; Harold (Susan Myers) Greene of Ft. Meade, MD, Jonathan (Jackie Carter) Greene of Trumbull, CT and Steven Greene of Cicero, NY. Eva is the loving sister of Joseph Shediak of Lawrenceville, GA and George Shediak of Fall River, MA. Also surviving are four cherished grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the New York Statewide Senior Action Council, 275 State St., Albany, NY 12210 in memory of Eva S. Greene.
