Evan F. Wagner

August 6, 1963 — May 2, 2023

Evan Frederick James Wagner was born on August 6, 1963 to Richard and Paula (Wendler) Wagner in Schenectady, New York, where he resided for most of his life. He died on May 2, 2023 in St. Peter's Hospital.

Evan was a highly intelligent, sensitive man who made friends easily and had many talents. He graduated from Guilderland High School and took classes in landscaping to improve his landscaping business, which he ran for many years. His customers loved and trusted him; as he often said, he worked for people, not money, and helped so many who could not have afforded to pay more to keep their lawns looking well-cared for. He also worked as a stonemason, taking great pleasure in designing and building stonework for his customers. He was apprenticed to Gavin Warner in Altamont for several years and was very proud of the fine work they did together.

Among his favorite outdoor activities was time spent hiking in the Adirondacks, where he knew many beautiful trails that he loved traveling in every season. He also fished in several of the small lakes, making friends with fellow fishermen and some old-time Adirondack loggers, whose stories he enjoyed immensely.

Evan was also a talented musician who played acoustic and electric guitar plus every keyboard you could name. He liked sitting in with his favorite area bands and also played organ for his church. He also composed his own songs, which he enjoyed and worked hard at.

Evan is survived by five siblings: Ellen Wagner, Glenn Wagner, Eric Wagner (Rev. Debbie Phillips), Karen LeMay (Robert), and Kristen Wagner Baker (Jim). He was Uncle to six nieces and nephews and great-uncle to three boys, as well. All of his family members grieve his untimely death, remembering him with both joy and sorrow. He is also survived by friends who loved him, several decades-long friendships he made while still in high school and many newer ones. He will always have a place in our hearts.

There will be a private memorial this summer.
