TROY – Evelyn A. Vido, 85, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Little Falls, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Peter and Louise (Litto) Ottaviano.
The many words that describe the life of Evelyn A. Vido outside of being a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother; will do nothing to explain the impact she had on her society and her family throughout her life. A blind woman, raising four children alone she worked diligently to get a Master's degree and become a professor at the Sage Colleges of Albany from 1969-1994. She taught groundbreaking sociology courses that included Ethnic Relations, Death and Dying, and Women and Gender Studies. Naune, as she was fondly called by her grandchildren, was a passionate civil rights advocate and academic who loved to watch CNN, root for her NY Yankees and talk about current events with her family. She was always making sure that the generations of women and men in her legacy were as independent and informed as she was. Throughout her life she always reminded everyone, "I am a woman; when I think, I must speak!"
Evelyn is now with her mother, father, brother and her dearly loved cat Terry. She leaves behind her children, Gail Ottaviano, Mark (Debbie) Mickle, Denise (Jim) Hardy and Toni (Thomas) Cerulli and grandchildren, Chad Mickle, Angelina Bergin, Andrea (Stan) Leszczynski, Corey Sherwood, Richie Caprici, Alyssa Hardy, Elaina Saponara, Nicole Saponara and Joshua Dellacruz.
