It is with great sadness and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Evelyn Burgos, affectionately known as "The real boss over at Danielwood". Evelyn was a one-of a kind spirit who brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
To know Evelyn is to love her. She was always the first to greet you with a cheerful "Hi my friend, how are you?" Her warmth and authenticity set the tone for everyone's day. Evelyn had a special gift of connecting with people-she often spoke in Spanish, sharing her words and translating their meaning. In doing so, she not only told us stories but also taught many of us to speak her native language.
Evelyn developed many special and sincere relationships with many staff members over the years. She cherished drinking tea-exactly the way she liked it (and if you made it wrong, she'd definitely let you know!). She could often be found lounging with her best friend Ashley, happily taking over the living room TV, or up and ready before anyone else, proudly saying, "AHH HAH, I beat you!"
Evelyn's personality was vibrant as her laugh, underneath her fiery words was a fierce loyal, big-hearted soul who loved deeply, fought bravely and never let anyone walk all over her. After every meal, her unapologetically loud burps echoed through the room, bringing a smile to her face. She adored sharing stories about her beloved grandmother and the resilience she showed surviving Willow brook. She loved going to the Crossings Park, and the mall. Evelyn also had a knack for recounting funny moments, which made her laugh every time.
"Evelina" as she liked to remind us of the nickname her close friends used, will be deeply missed- not just for her jokes and curses, but for the love that came with them. Whether belting out "Canta No Llores" (Sing, Don't Cry) or strolling down the hallway, Evelyn's presence was felt and celebrated. Her lively sprit, contagious laugh, and authenticity lit up every room she entered. Evelyn loved being herself, advocating for herself, and in doing so she inspired others to do the same.
Though Evelyn's absence leaves a void, her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched. It was truly and honor to share in the life of such a remarkable soul.
