BRUNSWICK - Evelyn M. Shoemaker, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born on September 19, 1944 in Albany and was the daughter of the late Kenneth M. and Gertrude (Barnum) Harrington. She resided in Troy for over 40 years before moving to Boca Raton, FL for 17 years then retired to Winston Salem, NC in 2005. She returned home in 2019.
Evelyn held several positions, working as an office clerk for many years for Montgomery Ward then worked at Samaritan Hospital for a brief period as a payroll clerk, then Office Depot in Florida as an office manager before retiring. She enjoyed family gatherings, long scenic rides and her overall passion was playing any kind of card games with family and close friends.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted life long partner and husband of 42 years, Frank Ruotolo; her loving sons, Gerald A. (Lisa) Shoemaker, Wayne M. (Lori) Shoemaker, and James E. (Carey) Shoemaker; her stepdaughters, Tina (Joseph) Toomey, Sherri (Roger) Diagnault, and Ronda (Jeffrey) Rosekrans; her sisters, Alice (Carl "Skip" King) Herold and Eileen (James) Grant; her grandchildren, Randall Shoemaker, Joshua (Hailey) Shoemaker, Nicholas Bruno, Krista (Marcus) Haywood, Kyle Shoemaker and Benjamin Shoemaker; her great grandchildren, Jace Shoemaker, Zoe Shoemaker, and Myles Haywood and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Kenneth Harrington, Patrick Harrington, and Phyllis Hojnicki and her sister-in-law and dearest best friend, Charlotte Harrington.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thank the Community Hospice team for their kindness, support and utmost care they provided with a special thank you to Ryan Callagan and Corinna Maiello for their exceptional compassion and care that they gave to Evelyn.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, where the service will follow at 12 p.m. Interment will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville following the service.
