Florence "Mimi" Duffy, 85, passed away on Thursday August 21, 2008 after a brief illness at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Lillian and Harry Duffy. Mimi worked for the Department of Social Services and retired in 1984. She was predeceased by her beloved brother Jackie and her older sister Ruth "Ruthie" Miralles who she loved and shared a home with for 50 years. She was also predeceased by her younger sister Evelyn "Babe" Sullivan. Babe died so young that her youngest daughter, Melissa was only 8 years old. Mimi helped to raise Melissa and always loved her like a daughter. Ruthie, Mimi and Babe were loving and loyal to each other all their lives. Mimi is survived by her nieces; Melissa Carrow, Sharon Mason and Deborah Porter, her caretaker for more than 15 years, her great nieces and nephews; Brittany Carrow, Caitlin Carrow, Amy Hochmuth, Bridy Lucas, Tara Scaccia, Tracy Martone, Jimmy Porter and Shaun Porter.
Mimi was one of a kind! Despite her small stature, Mimi was a strong woman. She survived being hit by a Jeep Wagoneer in 1989 and loved telling everyone about the metal rods and screws that kept her knees working after the accident. Mimi was even written about in medical journals for her progress in rehab strength training. Mimi enjoyed drawing, aerobics, swimming, runway modeling and watching the Young and the Restless. Mimi was most famous for the only thing she could make – scrambled eggs. Mimi LOVED sweets, especially, fresh baby powdered doughnuts, Hostess cupcakes, Drakes coffee cakes, baby cones from Tastee Freeze and Ruthie's rice pudding. Although Mimi was a little princess who liked things just-so, she was adored by all who loved her.
