NAPLES, FLORIDA - Florence R. Gordon, 96, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 after a long illness.
Florence was born in Troy, NY on November 30, 1927 to Irene C. Benoit and Alphonse J. DuCharme of Cohoes. She attended school in Cohoes and later entered the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany. Florence decided on a career in education and attended the College of St. Rose in Albany. She graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and later earned a Master's Degrees in both Education and Library Science.
Her love of children, passion for teaching and bright personality will always be remembered by those who were blessed by knowing her.
Florence loved to travel and enjoyed her many trips within the United States and in Europe. After a long career, Florence retired from the South Colonie School District in 1990. In 2008, Florence married Paul Gordon. Florence and Paul maintained a home in Loudonville, wintering in Naples. In 2016, they decided to make Naples their home.
Florence is survived by her husband, Paul; step-children, Brian, Virginia and John Gordon; her niece, Jane Wingle, and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Florence was predeceased by her first husband, Stephen Thompson; her sister, Helen DuCharme Swisshelm (the late Byron) and two brothers, Joseph Gordon DuCharme (the late Dorothy) and Francis Conrad DuCharme (the late Marjorie).
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2nd at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
