IRVINGTON, NY – Florence I. Beckley, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center.
Born to Irish immigrants in Irvington, NY., Florence was predeceased in 1997 by her husband, Raymond Beckley. Florence was an active member of her community where she served as a founding member of the ambulance corp. and coordinated all of her high school reunions. She was active with Aldersgate Methodist Church in Dobbs Ferry and was the Sunshine Lady, remembering special occasions of the congregation. Florence will be remembered for her welcoming and warm ability to bring people together. She was a tremendous host and could make everyone feel right at home. Proud of her Irish heritage, Florence was quick to share in song and celebration of her cherished family and friends.
Florence is the beloved mother of Barbara Beckley of Sommerset, NJ and Kenneth (Sara) Beckley of Bolton Landing, NY. She is the sister of Ann Simmons, Mildred Gordon, Ethel Zeh, Edward Kerr, Eleanor Sammartino, Barbara Carrozzi and the late Mary Palmer and Willie Kerr. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the McKownville United Methodist Church, 1565 Western Ave., Albany. A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church. Interment will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercycare Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084 or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Florence I. Beckley.
