KINDERHOOK_On January 22, 2016 Florence (Flo) Marie Rivera transitioned to eternal peace and joy with the Lord. Florence was the adored mother of Christine, Julie and Angela Rivera. Florence was a long time member of the Kinderhook Reformed Church which she considered her extended family. Flo was a great friend and counselor to everyone who knew her and never hesitated to offer honest, compassionate, unbiased and straightforward advice to anyone who asked and,on occasion, to those who didn't.Flo was also an avid horsewoman and dog lover. Flo loved her family, and she loved life.
Florence was born in Amsterdam New York on June 27, 1940 and lived in Kinderhook New York for the past 46 years. She was a graduate of Spencer Business Institute and enjoyed a long career in public service as assistant to the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Secretary of the Senate Finance Committee, and the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
Florence is predeceased by her beloved Bouvier Gerard Butler, her treasured Aunt Ethel and Uncle Bill Viscusi, her husband Michael and her father and mother Florence and Frank Giglio. In addition to her daughters, Florence is survived by her brother Vince (Betty) Giglio, her cousins Bill, Jim and David Viscusi and her nieces and nephews, Ron Giglio, Steve Giglio, Patty Yager, Eddy Rivera, Bernice Flores, Wayne Rivera, and the latest addition to her family, Hugo the Bouv.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 11 a.m.at the Kinderhook Reformed Church, 21 Broad Street, Kinderhook New York. Interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in memory of Florence to the Kinderhook Reformed Church "Elevator Project", 21 Broad Street, Kinderhook, NY, 12106.
