Albany- Florence I. (Benedict) Palmer, 95, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018 at the Teresian House in Albany. Born on February 20, 1923 in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada, Florence was the daughter of the late Alex and Florence (LaGrave) Benedict. She was raised in Odanak, province of Quebec, Canada along with her nine siblings. When she was 16, she moved to the United States. She met and married her husband, Frank P. Palmer and together raised their family in Albany. For many years, she worked for the Albany City School District until her retirement. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her daughters: Margaret (James) DiScipio, Florence (Tudi) Oropallo, Virginia (Harry) Costello, Marie (Ron) DiScipio and Elizabeth (Liz) Isabella; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings: Anne Elizabeth (Betty) Collins and Louis Benedict; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by an infant son; her brothers: Walter, Kenneth, Eugene, Frank and Robert Benedict and her sisters: Mildred Hahn and Helen Benedict.
Florence's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Floor 5B at the Teresian House for their love, care and friendship of Mom over the last two years.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 26 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, June 27 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
