TROY_Florence Posporelis, 81, passed away on May 26, 2016 surrounded by her family at St. Peter's Hospice Inn.
She was born in November of 1934 to Harry and Julia (Dadoukis) Karamanlis in Troy, NY. She was married to James Posporelis of Long Island for 54 years.
Florence was actively involved at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church. While attending St. Basil she served on the Parish Council as Treasurer and as a Sunday School Teacher. She also served as a parent advisor with St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church for the youth who participated in the Junior Greek Olympics from 1979-1985. Florence later attended St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church where she volunteered at the admissions table during the annual festival. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope Orestia Chapter 291 of Troy and Pasithea Chapter at St. Paul's Cathedral of Hempstead, NY.
Florence worked at NY Telephone Company, as a draftsperson, where she helped design the princess phone. She retired from New York State OGS HVAC Department in April of 2000.
Florence had a deep devotion to her family and found her greatest joy with her grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, James and children, George (Gail) Posporelis, Harry Posporelis and Barbara Posporelis-Rustin and her grandchildren, Christopher Posporelis, Alexandra Rustin and Dylan Posporelis as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her cousins Mary Passarelli and Ann Poulimas.
She is predeceased by her parents and her infant brother Amelios and brother, Amelios Karamanlis.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone at St. Peter's Hospital and St. Peter's Hospice Inn for their compassionate and loving care.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm with a Trisagion service beginning at 7:30pm on Thursday, June 2 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205. The funeral service will be on Friday, June 3 at 10am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, NY 12208. Interment will be held at Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, NY 12208.
