Florence E. Whitcomb

Florence E. Whitcomb, 93, passed away peacefully at Teresian House Nursing Home Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Priscilla (Davis) Fortune of Stamford, CT. Florence was the loving wife of 56 years to the late Rev. Gordon H. Whitcomb.
She was predeceased by her brother Raymond K. Fortune of West Bowdoin, ME.
She was born and raised in Stamford, CT and after graduating from high school attended college at Eastern Bible Institute in Green Lane, PA where she met her husband Gordon H. Whitcomb. After they married they ministered in Maine and then started a church in Barton, VT where they ministered for 17 years and 28 years in a church started in Hardwick, VT.
Florence was first and foremost devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, desiring to bring Him honor and glory with her life.
She was a devoted wife to her beloved Gordon working by his side as a ministerial assistant in the churches they pastored together. She was active in the ministry of music singing, playing piano, organ and accordion. She was also a mighty "Prayer Warrior" assisting any who came to her for counsel or prayer.
She was a loving and dedicated mother to her children Esther and Timothy and steadfast in teaching them the love of Christ Jesus for which they are forever thankful and blessed.
Florence is survived by her daughter Rev. Esther Hood (Dr. Thomas G. Hood), and her son Rev. Timothy Whitcomb (Cecilia Whitcomb). She had six grandchildren, Thomas and Sarah Hood, Timothy, Daniel, and Aaron Whitcomb, Shannon (Whitcomb) Krimsky, and three great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Florence will also be missed by countless members of her church families.
Whenever anyone would ask Florence "how are you doing" her reply was "I am praising the Lord" which is how she lived her life and will now be doing for eternity in His presence.
We wish to express a special thank you to all of the staff members who cared for Florence at the Teresian House Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be held at the Brownington Center Cemetery, Brownington Center, Vermont on November 8, 2018 at 1:00 PM.
A Celebration Of Her Life will be held at: New Life Ministries, 1858 State St, Schenectady, NY 12304 on Sunday November 11, 2018 at 1:30 PM with Rev. Edward Berggren officiating.
