NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Florie Mae Stone, 90, formerly of Albany, passed away on Saturday March 31, 2012 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. She was born in Beaufort, SC and was the eldest child of the late Herbert and Mary Etta Alston.
Florie Mae Stone Left South Carolina as a teenager and moved to White Plains, NY where she optimized her Culinary Skills in the private sector. During this time she met and married her beloved Solomon James Stone and relocated to Albany, NY. As a result of this union 11 children were born.
Florie is survived by six daughters, Delores Tarver and Mary Stone-Wallace both of Newport News, VA, Theresa Joyner-Lewis and Priscilla Stone both of Albany, NY, Judy Stone-King of Seabrook, SC, and Rita Fulton of Glennville GA; two sons, Barry and Marshall Stone both of Albany, NY; two brothers, Toby and Herbert Alston both of SC, and two sisters, Alberta (Charles) Cook of SC and Nazarene Mitchell of MD. She is also survived by host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her spouse, Solomon J. Stone; her children, Helene Ward, and Kingsley and Bradley Stone; and her siblings, Ruth Carter, Wilomena Burgess, Stella Lawrence, Georgianna Roberts, Geneiva Alston and Leroy Alston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 105 Second Street, Albany. Calling hours will precede the service from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery.
