GUILDERLAND – Floyd Van Zandt, 75, of Guilderland, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Walter and Ethel Van Zandt, Sr. Mr. Van Zandt was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal service from where he retired in 1990 after 28 years of service. Floyd was a charter member of the Guilderland Elks Lodge #2480, a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post #1520, and a member of the Kuhn Senior Citizens Center. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling. Floyd is the beloved husband of 50 years to Virginia T. Van Zandt. He is the devoted twin brother of Lloyd Van Zandt and his wife, Elaine, Agnes Prior, Judi Van Zandt and Walter Van Zandt, Jr. and his wife, Jane. Floyd is the loving son-in-law of Edith Troutman; brother-in-law of Doris and Julius Aupperle. He is the cherished uncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Also surviving are many devoted friends. Floyd's family would like to thank his hospice caregivers, Alice Baker, Christina Terry, Leslie Venable and Arvonda Hanlon for all of the love and compassion they gave to Floyd during his illness.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Floyd Van Zandt.
