NISKAYUNA - Frances A. (Fletcher) Chapman, passed on to eternal rest Sept. 17, 2012, after a brief illness at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. Frances was born in Kittery Point, Maine on August 22, 1919. She graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery with the Class of 1938. She was active in the Debating Club, edited the school newspaper, and wrote the Class Ode and the Class History. She was also very active in her church, the First Baptist Church of Kittery Point.
Mrs. Chapman went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Maine Central General Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. She held various nursing positions in her career, including Visiting Nurse, Private Duty, General Electric Dispensary, finally working for many years at the Watervliet Arsenal as Chief Nurse. She also became a Certified Occupational Health Nurse.
Frances is predeceased by her parents Arthur O. Fletcher and Ellen (Sawyer) Fletcher and her beloved husband Charles E. Chapman. She is also predeceased by siblings Dorothy Chick, Ida McCray, Louise Fletcher, Frederick Fletcher, and Warren Fletcher. Her sister Constance Callender resides in Sarasota, Florida, brother Arthur Fletcher is from Kittery, and Alvin Fletcher is from Kittery.
Frances is survived by three daughters, Julia Goodwin of Clifton Park, Nancy (Donald) Forkas of Rexford, and Margaret (Donald) Launer of Niskayuna. Grandchildren include Amber (David) Moser, Sara (Brent) Tague, Wendy Witowski, Gale (Chad) Asch, Dustin (Kaye) Forkas, Eve Launer, and Eric (Amy) Launer. GreatGrandchildren include Meghan Witowski, Cattley Asch and Chad Asch Jr. Frances has thirty-six nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Chapman was a World Traveler. She traveled to all continents except Antarctica. She was a very curious person and loved traveling and seeing other people, cultures and ways of life. She was a very friendly person and enjoyed conversations with many people wherever she traveled. She loved literature and poetry, and could quote many poems by heart. She loved her family and credited her positive view on life to her early family years with her many brothers and sisters in Kittery Point.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Funeral services and interment will be in Kittery Point Maine.
