East Greenbush~ Frances Earlene Melton Allen ~
Frances Earlene Melton Allen was born on November 24, 1924 in Opelika, AL to the late Paul and Hettie Melton. At the age of 96, she transitioned her earthly home at Evergreen Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in East Greenbush, NY on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Frances was a stay-at-home Mom until all of her children were of school age. She worked at a daycare and later retired from NYS Office of General Services. Frances loved to play Bingo, go to the casino and work Seek and Find puzzles. To know her was to love her straight forwardness, her "isms" and great sense of humor. She was given the nickname "Knickerbocker Times Union" because she always knew everything you did not want her to know.
She married George W. Allen, Sr. at a young age. To this union seven children were born. They moved to Orlando, FL for a short time and then settled in Albany, NY in 1951 with four of her children.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Allen, and a grandson, Ubeka Allen both at five years of age and a brother, Benjamin Melton.
She is survived by five daughters, Mae G. Henrie, Geraldine (Willie) James, Helen Franklin, Gladys (Emmett) Brooks, all of Albany, NY, Delorise (Anthony) Moore of Springville, AL and one son, George W. Allen, Jr. of Albany; two sisters, Marie (Marion) Jones of Stockton, California, Janie Patterson of San Diego, California and one brother, Arthur Gene (Beatrice) Melton, Albany, NY, sister-in-law, Daisy Melton, Albany, NY and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
