SCHENECTADY- Frances S. Brooks, 105, was called home to the lord on April 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Frances was born in Schenectady, NY on September 21, 1912 to Francis and Sadie Makowski. In 1932 she married Carl F. Brooks Sr. They were married for 28 years until his passing. Together they raised two sons, Carl Jr and James. Frances was an owner/operator of the Shamrock Beauty Shop in Albany, NY. Her time as a beautician was interrupted by WW II when she became a "Rosie the Riveter" at the Watervliet Arsenal from 1942 to 1945. She will be remembered for her love of helping others. Her passion in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great children. She was very talented in needle point and many other crafts which she enjoyed making for family on special occasions.
Frances is predeceased by Carl Sr., and Carl Jr.
She is survived by her son, James Sr., her grandchildren, Clint, Jimmy, Lori, James Jr., Anthony, and David, her 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Monday, April 9, 2018, from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12308, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
