COLONIE-Frances A. DeRubbo, 75, of Colonie passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013. She was born in Albany, NY the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Carnevale. Frances grew up in West Albany, where her family owned Carnevale's Grocery. She attended Albany Academy for Girls and enjoyed singing with the Glee Club. Frances graduated with the Class of 1956. Later she attended SUNY Oneonta and Russell Sage College, where she earned a Master's Degree in teaching. Frances taught second grade for South Colonie School District until she had a family of her own. Her main priority was being a mother and raising her family. Later in life, Frances went back to substitute teaching. Frances was the mom of the neighborhood and children were drawn to her kind warm heart. She was a woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Frances was never known to pass up sweets and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking, reading and old hollywood movies and actors. She passed up many opportunities to own her own business or make money, but she said that being rich to her was spending time with her family. Frances was a devoted mother and grandmother, who will be missed by all that knew her.
Frances is the beloved mother of Eric "Rick" DeCarlo (Polina) of Niskayuna and Melissa Ferrara-Becher of Colonie. She is also the loving grandmother of Rianna Ferrara, Leonardo DeCarlo and Alexander DeCarlo. Frances is also survived by her brother Anthony Carnevale.
In addition to her parents, Frances is predeceased by her son Jeffrey DeCarlo and by a son in law Dave Becher.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, May 10, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie.
A celebration of Frances' life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday May 11, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
