GUILDERLAND – Frances L. Metzger, 85, of Guilderland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peter's after a brief illness.
Born in Albany, Frances was the daughter of the late William H. and Frances E. Smith, Jr. A longtime Guilderland resident, Fran was a communicant of Saint Margaret Mary's Church.
Kindness and sacrifice came naturally to Frances and she always made time to help others. Her lifelong dedication to her family, she placed the needs of others before her own. She was quick to do anything for her friends and family, especially her three granddaughters.
After graduating, Frances was employed as a bookkeeper for Sterling Winthrop and later by Manpower Services.
Frances enjoyed family trips to Atlantic City, Florida, and Nova Scotia. Following her retirement, she and her husband Larry spent many summers at their camp on Brant Lake. Frances enjoyed many hours of fun and laughter with her Albany Singles Dance Group and the Colonie Elks Bocce Club. She also had many wonderful long-time neighbors who looked out for her. For the past year, Frances resided at Atria Guilderland and spent countless hours socializing and participating in activities with staff and friends. Frances had a passion to live life to the fullest.
Frances was predeceased in 1989 by her husband Lawrence E. Metzger. She is the beloved mother of Gail P. Fetsko (John) and Noreen F. Coxon (Paul). She was the cherished grandmother of Lauren C. Reynolds (Seth), Danielle K. Fetsko, and Catherine E. Coxon. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Koch (Harry) and her brother William H. Smith III (Patricia)and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 8:45 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to All Saints Catholic Church, Homestead St. Albany at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Frances L. Metzger.
