Albany – Frances R. Kells, died peacefully at Albany Medical Center Hospital on Thursday August 26, 2010 with her family by her side. Born in Bristol, RI on March 30, 1934, Fran was a 1950 graduate of Colt Memorial High School.
Fran met her husband John, the love of her life, at a Saturday night dance at the Newport, RI YMCA, where she saved the 10 cent bus fare by taking her shoes off and walking over the Mt. Hope Bridge between Bristol and Newport. After many happy years together, John predeceased her in 1992.
Fran retired from SUNY Albany in 1993 where she was a food service supervisor for 25 years. Fran was a communicant at the Church of Christ the King where she served as a very faithful volunteer as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Bereavement Committee and an ever-present greeter at the 8:00am Mass on Sunday morning. For many years she also served as a visitation minister, bringing scripture and comfort several days a week to hundreds of residents of Atria and Teresian House Nursing Homes. She was always available to help others in need, was extremely thoughtful and generous, and will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched in hundreds of big and small ways.
Surviving family include her cousins, Louis Chirico and Bernard Tortorice of Barrington, RI, her nephew, Dr. Rusty (Suzanne) Tortorice and their children, Bernard and Christine of Sarasota, FL, and her Godchildren Tracey Turner and Alexandra Feller.
She will also be greatly missed by those that Fran called her family: Dominic, Mary, Brittiny & Anthony Belmonte; Carol, Lainie & Bobby Gray; Ron, Joanne, Timothy, Benjamin & Elizabeth Henderson and Michael, Lois, Michael and Kristin Keefrider.
