ALBANY – Francis J. "Pat" Dolan, 89, reunited with his beloved Dottie on Sunday February 7, 2021.
Pat was born in Troy on December 8, 1931 a son of the late Andrew and Elsie (Smith). He attended Vincentian Institute in Albany.
He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Following his time in the military, he became a Police Officer in the Albany Police Dept working his way up to Detective Sergeant. He was responsible for creating the first Narcotics Enforcement Unit and introduced the first two Narcotics Canines in the City. Following a decorated career with the Police Department, he retired in 1983. Not being ready to slow down just yet, Pat then worked in Security and later in Collections for National Grid until deciding to retire in 1995.
He was a lifetime member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 1610 in North Albany.
Pat enjoyed playing Pinochle, darts and horseshoes. He was a Yankees and Giants fan and was an avid coin collector.
Pat was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 1997.
He is survived by 3 sons, Patrick (Debbie), Tim (Susan) and Dennis; 5 grandchildren, Tracy, Jason, Sharon, Tim and Sean and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be private. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans.
