SCHENECTADY, NY – Francis J. "Cheech" Amoroso, left his pain and suffering behind him and entered into heaven on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Glendale Nursing Home. He was born on January 25, 1932 and was the son of the late Pasquale and Jennie Amoroso. Mr. Amoroso was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, serving his country for over 20 years. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving many service medals including the Bronze Star, U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Cheech worked for the N.Y.S. Dept. of Environmental Conservation and then worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company from where he retired. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks and a life member of the V.F.W. Post on Union Street in Schenectady. Cheech was very active and enjoyed helping his neighbors, tending to his garden and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Amoroso and his brother-in-law, Anthony Lombardo. Cheech leaves behind his loving wife, Nellie Amoroso, his son, Mario Amoroso, his step-son, Darren Dariano and his step-daughter, Terri Dariano Faulkner, and his grandsons, Anthony Ferraro and Gabriel Amoroso. Also surviving is his sister, Vincenza (VeVe) Lombardo, his cousins, Father Dominic Papa, CP and Sister Carol Marie, Sp as well as many nieces and nephews. Cheech's family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice of Schenectady and the staff on 3C at Glendale Nursing Home for all of the special care given to him during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Francis J. "Cheech" Amoroso.
