Francis Peter Stainkamp, of Guilderland, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in the Bronx, New York and was the son of the late Henry and Evelyn Stainkamp.
Along with his late wife, Lillian, and his daughter Bonnie, Frank resided in Ellenville, NY and New York City before moving to Guilderland where they lived for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II where he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Following his service in the Navy, Frank joined the New York State Troopers. "On the job", he served in various positions in the State Police, finally retiring at the rank of Assistant Deputy Superintendent. Frank was a sixth generation Police Officer.
Frank was the beloved husband of the late, Lillian Stainkamp. He is the very devoted father of Bonnie Leonardi and her husband Roy; and cherished grandfather of Frank and Ben Leonardi. Frank is the brother of Henry Stainkamp and his wife Rosemary. Also surviving is Gloria Stainkamp, the wife of Frank's late brother Austin, who also served as a police officer in New York City.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Heritage Village Clubhouse in Guilderland from 1 to 4:00 pm. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205, in memory of Frank P. Stainkamp.
