SCHENECTADY- Frank J. Cornicelli died March 14, 2021 at the age of 98 years old after a brief hospital stay. He was born in Schenectady on November 28, 1922 to Frank and Mary (DeMarco) Cornicelli.
Frank graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1941. He worked for General Electric in the Large Steam Turbine Department as an assembler and retired in 1984 after over 30 years.
Frank is survived by his wife Eunice (Ward) Cornicelli of Saranac Lake whom he married in 1950; children: Carol Cornicelli (partner Ron Richardson), David Cornicelli and his sons, David and Dan Cornicelli; and Bruce (wife Erika) Cornicelli and their sons, Ian and Bryce Cornicelli; sister, Helen McGrane and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brothers Edward Cornicelli and Bernie Raimondo and sister Carmela Lavery. Also sisters-in-law Martha Cornicelli, Barbara Raimondo, Thelma Wood and brothers-in-law Bill Lavery, Charles Ward and Charles McGrane.
Frank was very active in the two sports he loved most- golf and bowling- and was known as "the Mayor" in bowling circles. He was secretary of bowling leagues and his Works Nitemen Golf League for over 60 years. He was a member of the Schenectady Bowling Association for 40 years and the only two-time president. He made the SBA Hall of Fame in 1995 and was also inducted into the New York State Bowling Association Hall of Fame on June 2, 2018. Frank was also friends with many of the great professional bowlers in the country.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Monday March 22, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York. A service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. Gathering size, within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
