Frank DeFrank, 87, formerly of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2013 with his family by his side in Tampa, Fl.
Frank was born March 1, 1926 in Schenectady, NY, to the late Jerry and Lucy DeFrank. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and then served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a radar operator aboard the USS Shelby. He received a bachelor's degree from Siena College, and a master's degree in education from Oneonta College. Mr. DeFrank was an elementary school principal for the Troy school district until his retirement in 1985, and was a member of the New York State Teachers Association.
In addition to spending time with family and friends, his lifelong interests included bowling, fishing, playing cards, horse racing, crossword puzzles and dining out.
Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Damia (Stirpe) DeFrank; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Gioia of Tampa, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nancy DeFrank of Colonie, NY; grandchildren, Laura Gioia of Pinellas Park, FL; Kathryn Gioia of Monterey, CA; Timothy DeFrank of Vinton, Virginia; Michael Messler of Colonie, NY, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon on June 19, 2013 at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, (formerly St. Helen's) in Niskayuna, NY. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
