Frank H. Taft, 70, passed away, Thursday, January 7th 2016 surrounded by his family. Frank is predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine Taft.
Frank is survived by his sons, Brian (Karen) and Jason (Jennifer), his sisters; Maryann and Patricia and 4 cherished grandchildren.
Frank was a Navy Corpsman, he was assigned to the Marine Corps where he served bravely in Vietnam from 1967-1968. After returning home, he attended Russell Sage College, thanks to the G.I. Bill.
In the early 1970's Frank was very involved with the Midway Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was instrumental in the development of the first paramedic program in the area and was responsible for the first modular ambulance and Rescue Squad Captain. Later Frank was appointed as Albany County Fire Coordinator in charge of EMS.
Frank was co-founder and CEO of the Center of Donations and Transplantation, where many lives were saved through organ transplants, and many families were comforted by their ability to donate organs. Frank served as President of the National Kidney Foundation of North East New York, as well as numerous national committees on organ donation.
He enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe with his wife, as well as long motorcycle rides which they enjoyed together.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held Wednesday January 13, 2016 at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady, New York 12206.
Interment will be held Friday at 1:00pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
