COLONIE – Frank J. Thornton, 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at home with family by his side. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Thornton.
Frank was a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service. In his free time, Frank enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. He was a fan of both the Giants and Yankees. Frank was also a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520 and VFW Post 1019.
Along with his parents, Frank was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph, Gene, Agnes and Helen.
He will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Grace; children Frank (the late Joanna), James (Elena), Thomas (Lori) and Robert (Patty); siblings John and Midge; grandchildren Thomas, Katrina, Oliver, Arielle, Jeremy, Joshua, Kelly, Kayla and great-grandchild Shane.
The family wishes to thank Becky, Tiffany and Leslie from Hospice for their compassionate care.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Avenue, Albany, NY. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 in Frank's name.
