COLONIE – Frank Malinoski, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2007 surrounded by his family. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Matlock) Malinowski. He resided in Colonie for over fifty years. Mr. Malinoski was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cowpens. He served in the Pacific Theatre being stationed on the island of Tarawa. His unit received the Bronze Star. After the Navy, Frank worked for Needes Express for many years and more recently for Smith Transport from where he retired. He was past president and life member of the Schuyler Heights Fire Co., where he served as Master Mechanic until the age of 80 and was a two-time recipient of the Fireman of the Year Award. Frank was past commander of the Menands American Legion Post #1825, a member of V.F.W. Post #729 in Watervliet, and was a Colonel in the Confederate Air Force where he volunteered his time to help organize local air shows. He was a talented mechanic, known for his ability to fix anything with a motor. Frank also enjoyed traveling the country with his wife Ruth, attending reunions of the Combat Aircraft Service Unit (C.A.S.U.) #17, including one he hosted in Buffalo, NY. Frank was also a self-taught organist, an amateur videographer, and loved all dogs, especially boxers. Above all, Frank was proud of his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is the beloved husband of 61 years to Ruth E. (Martin) Malinoski. He is the devoted father of George F. Malinoski and his wife, Edwina of Watervliet, Dr. Frank J. Malinoski and his wife, Judy of Clarksburg, MD and Mark W. Malinoski and his wife, Maryann of Colonie. Frank is the cherished grandfather (Papa) of Amy E. Malinoski of Watervliet, Lori Beth (Dave) Bernat of Burbank, CA, Lisa A. (Sam) Johnson of Pensacola, FL, Richard (Kathy) Peschel of Hillsboro, NH, Wayne (Patti) Peschel of Stoddard, NH, Matthew Malinoski of Clarksburg, MD, Adam M. (Anna) Malinoski of Norwalk, CT and Aaron J. Malinoski of Colonie. He was the loving uncle of Joan (George) Cusack of Ballston Lake. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Frank was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Frank's family would like to thank the entire staff at the Eddy Ford Nursing Home, especially Jane Lacavita Clemente, for all of the excellent care given to him during his stay.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 8:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Brigid's Church, Watervliet at 9:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Arthur J. Becker officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eddy Daybreak Adult Day Services, 421 W. Columbia St., Cohoes, NY 12047 or Schuyler Heights Fire Co., 900 First St., Watervliet, NY 12189 in memory of Frank Malinoski.
